Create an invoice from within the app for self-employed sole traders or limited companies.
this would have my vote in preference to MTD assuming you can do both within the next 12 months
@steven heather: Hi Steven, thanks for the comment. We will definitely be doing both within the next 12 months and whichever we choose first is likely to be ready within a couple of months. FYI by clicking on the red triangle next to the heading "Create an invoice" you can upvote this idea.

These look good - would be nice to be able to specify currency but I guess that might be a separate feature in itself.

Looks good, definitely top of my list! Some of my clients require invoice specific fields like a PO Number, Reference or Invoice Number. It could perhaps offer an option to 'Add invoice details' similar to the 'Add another item' flow.
@Sergio Felipe: I agree that would be useful and our idea was the summary field could be used flexibly either for a reference field or any other important information to convey to the customer, or both.
@Tim Fouracre: That can work too and it keeps it simple. Maybe use some placeholder text examples to let people know they can put those details there.

@Sarah Jones: Thanks for the input Sarah. Automated reminders will definitely be a feature but probably not for the first release. Previewing invoices is a nice idea - we'll add that as an idea to keep track of it.

Love the invoice designs! I'll throw in my 2 cents - I usually have quite a lot on one invoice, where I detail (per day) the work I've done. Though I like the design of these, I feel like a lot more information could fit if everything was shrunk down a bit. Not pretty, I know, but when dealing with printable designs, I'd generally opt for compact over pretty.
Defo need this, as a start up Ltd co, I don't have lots of money or time to be designing this sort of thing. If it's all connected through the app. A reminder of which invoices have been paid/need chasing etc. It would help for book keeping/keeping up to date.
Do you also have a set form that we could use & add to contracts with clients, for direct debit payments (with the Counting up/our logo) - similar to the invoice, but for standing order monthly payments? It's usually just a small section that needs customer signature etc. To email them, with the option for them to add their signature and have it uploaded/emailed back to us when done?
This could also help encourage new businesses (that we send the forms/invoices to) to use Counting up, spread the word of what you do and gain business yourselves? A bit of free advertising for C. UP...Just a thought....
